Lactation Support
Breastfeeding is natural—but that doesn’t mean it always comes naturally. Many new moms and babies need extra help during the first weeks and months, and that’s where we come in. At Great Destinations Pediatrics, our compassionate physicians offer personalized lactation support to help you feel confident and supported in your breastfeeding journey.
Why Breastfeeding Support Matters
Breastfeeding provides unmatched nutrition and lifelong health benefits for your baby. It also strengthens the bond between mother and child. But every family’s experience is unique. Challenges such as latching issues, milk supply concerns, nipple pain, or returning to work can feel overwhelming without guidance.
Our team has helped countless breastfeeding families, and we’re here to support you whether you’re exclusively breastfeeding, combining breast and bottle, or navigating special feeding needs. Any amount of breast milk you provide is a lasting gift of health to your child.
How We Can Help
We offer both in-office feeding evaluations and ongoing phone support. Our goal is to meet you where you are and help you succeed—whether you need a single visit for reassurance or ongoing guidance.
Areas We Provide Support Include:
- Positioning your baby for a comfortable, effective latch
- Managing breast or nipple pain
- Ensuring your baby is transferring enough milk
- Pump selection, sizing, and proper use
- Safe milk storage and handling
- Transitioning between breast and bottle
- Returning to work or school while breastfeeding
- Traveling and breastfeeding
- Managing teething, slow weight gain, or premature infants
- Feeding twins
- Breastfeeding babies with special medical needs (e.g., cleft palate, Down syndrome, heart conditions)
- Guidance on breastfeeding while taking medications, undergoing medical tests, or having surgery
Respecting Your Feeding Choices
We encourage exclusive breastfeeding during your baby’s first 4 to 6 months, followed by continued breastfeeding alongside solid foods through at least 12 months, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. At the same time, we respect every family’s individual feeding decisions and will support your goals without judgment.
