Immunizations
At Great Destinations Pediatrics in Peoria, we believe prevention is the best medicine. Immunizations protect your child from serious illnesses—some of which once caused widespread disability and death. Thanks to vaccines, many of these diseases are now rare or eliminated, giving children today the chance to grow up healthier and safer.
Our board-certified pediatricians, along with our caring team, follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Immunization Schedule to keep children fully protected from infancy through young adulthood.
Why Are Immunizations Important?
Vaccines are one of the safest and most effective ways to prevent disease. By staying up to date, your child is protected from life-threatening infections like measles, polio, and meningitis.
Immunizations also help protect our community. This concept, called herd immunity, means that when most people are vaccinated, it lowers the risk for infants, immunocompromised children, and others who cannot be fully vaccinated.
Are Vaccines Safe?
Yes. Vaccines go through extensive testing, research, and ongoing safety monitoring before they are approved for children. Side effects, if they occur, are typically mild and can include, (such as soreness at the injection site or a low-grade fever).
Our providers welcome your questions. We want every parent to feel confident and informed about their child’s care.
Parent Vaccines
We also offer Tdap (tetanus, diptheria and pertussis/whooping cough) and influenza vaccines for parents of newborns to help protect their babies. Every fall, we host a family flu clinic, making it easy for everyone to stay protected against the influenza virus.
Our Immunization Policy
At Great Destinations Pediatrics, we follow the AAP’s recommended schedule as outlined above. Because vaccines are so critical for protecting children—especially newborns who are too young to be fully immunized or those who are immunocompromised—we do not see families who choose not to vaccinate and do not offer schedules that are significantly different from the AAP vaccine schedule.
If you have concerns or fears about vaccines, our providers are here to listen, answer your questions, and guide you through the proven benefits and risks.
