In October 2016, a father-son road trip turned into an unimaginable tragedy when Matt Roeder and his 17-year-old son, Jace, were involved in a devastating car accident that took Jace\u2019s life.<\/p>

In honor of Jace’s legacy, Matt and his partner Kallie established the Jace D. Roeder Foundation. This foundation is not just a tribute; it\u2019s a mission to ensure that Jace\u2019s incredible impact continues. Through this work, we aim to foster kindness, support, and community service, empowering others to make a difference in their own lives and the lives of those around them. Matt and his family found comfort at Billy\u2019s Place, spending time with other families in a grief support group. The peer support was an intracule part of he and his family\u2019s ability to move forward. Matt shares, \u201cAs a family, we can use our experience as a beacon \u2013 Loss is real, and so is the recovery. It\u2019s not something you ever get over, but you can move forward.\u201d<\/p>

Matt is now a trained facilitator at Billy\u2019s Place, helping other parents in the\u00a0Loss of a Child\u00a0<\/em>group.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The accident that claimed Jace\u2019s life included a collision with a bus of FFA students returning from their national convention. Two months after the accident, the students and group leaders sent their condolences along with an invite for Matt and his family to join them at their hometown community night where they honored Jace\u2019s life. Now, Matt serves on the board of FFA National and is an avid supporter of the FFA and their young members.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Jace was a good student and had a great sense of humor. He was witty but kind. He was thoughtful, and energetic, and full of promise. His character was one of his greatest attributes. He was 17 years old and a senior in high school, he didn\u2019t have it all \ufb01gured out but he was hopeful, smart, caring and was always looking out for other people, doing whatever he could to make their days better.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
