Projects with the Best Return on Investment

Many times, when people remodel their homes, they consider how their remodel will affect their resale value further down the line. If this sounds familiar to you, read on for a few projects that have the best return on your investment.

  1. Kitchen renovations. Remodeling an outdated, oddly laid out, or just plain worn down kitchen is one of the best ways to ensure your dollars aren’t going down the drain. The only caveat here is to tailor your budget for this project based on the amount of time you plan on spending in the house. Selling right away? Aim for selections and design choices that maximize your return. Staying for another ten years? Feel free to make choices that fit your aesthetic and unique wants and needs.
  2. Master bathroom remodels. Besides the kitchen, the master suite is the number two place in the house that receives the highest benefit from a remodel. Again, keep in mind what you’re prioritizing when remodeling this space: your tastes or a future buyer’s wants (either is acceptable, of course!).
  3. Adding curb appeal. If you plan on having a for sale sign in your yard in the foreseeable future, it’s important to address any exterior issues that could deter passersby from becoming potential buyers (I guess you can judge a book by its cover after all!). New windows, a front door, siding, paint, or even just a power wash of some old brick can work wonders, and provide a high-value for a relatively low-cost project.

In the end, you hold the final say in what goes on – after all, it is your home, even if you plan on selling it in the future. These examples are merely ideas for how you can maximize resale value with renovations and improvement projects.
