If you opt for custom cabinet design in your remodel, you’re in for a treat! Not only do you get to hand pick every aspect of the design – from box sizes to door styles to hinge color – you also get the unique opportunity to request special features that you may not be able to find when purchasing standardized cabinetry. Here are a few examples you can request to truly customize your cabinetry:
- Roll-outs, roll-outs, roll-outs!! So, these may not exactly be “unique”, but roll-out trays have practical applications in almost any cabinet. My favorite installation? Add a roll-out under a sink cabinet to make the entire space accessible. No more fumbling to reach around the p-trap or knocking things over when looking for that one, specific cleaning product that always seems to be hiding at the back of the cabinet.
- A hidden paper towel holder. If you’re like me, you are a fan of anything that reduces clutter. These little niches can slip into any cabinet in your kitchen to make a convenient (and secret!) place to keep your paper towels.
- A hair tool suite. “Hair tool suite” may sound really fancy, but I couldn’t find a more eloquent way of saying “an in-cabinet plug paired with a heat resistant holster”. If you’re big on flat irons and curling wands, this combination of features can help make your morning routine easier without sacrificing safety. Did I mention how much I like cutting down on clutter?
- A pantry system. Imagine a world where there’s a place for everything, and everything is in its place – ahhhh. That’s what a pantry system can do! If you’re really dedicated to organization, take inventory of the items you’d like to store (spices, flour and sugar canisters, bulk goods) so you can really create a custom place for everything.
