The staircase was on the backside of the kitchen back wall, and the existing walls around the fridge and pantry were supporting the stair landing. The existing wall space posed limitations. The new refrigeration units requested had specific requirements, and fitting these large units alongside an appropriately sized pantry door was complex. The pantry door needed to be positioned where there was head clearance to step inside, given the stairs above. One of the key objectives was to make the entire wall appear as seamless cabinetry. This required meticulous attention to detail, allowing clearances for different types of doors, hinging, and handles. The built-ins on either side of the fireplace were new and had to be ordered in special box shapes to fit the existing cubbies and the room’s framing. Metal and brass grills were added to the top doors for both beauty and function, hiding speakers behind the doors while allowing sound to come through the mesh.
